Bechers Court, Southwell

project Details

Bechers Court is a prestigious development in the heart of Southwell, Nottinghamshire. The site was previously home to Southwell's second House of Correction, with two of its original buildings remaining. These buildings, constructed in the early 1800's, hold Grade II Listed status, along with the original prison wall that surrounds the site. Taynton's Construction Manager, Jonty, acted as Contracts Manager on this development whilst working for Gusto Construction Ltd.

The two listed buildings were beautifully renovated and split into 5 individual dwellings. The roofs were stripped and re-tiled, brickwork heavily re-pointed and new double glazed timber windows fitted throughout to totally transform the properties, bringing them back up to the required standards. Internally, the properties were delicately divided up, with a combination of lime render and dry lining being used to the external walls, working to the requirements of the local Conservation officer. The internal finishes were done to a high standard and beautifully complimented the original features of the buildings.

Alongside the 5 newly renovated properties, a further 27 new build dwellings were carefully designed and built to compliment the history of the site. A variety of size and designs included 14 apartments and 13 houses, built with red brickwork, architectural stonework, larch cladding and natural slate roofs. The quality of materials and workmanship show in the structural elements, as well as the internal finishes. Two tone kitchen units are complimented by white quartz worktops, with Sottini sanitary fittings set elegantly against Italian porcelain tiles.

The whole development sits beautifully within the town of Southwell, just off the Burgage.
